Building Typology

Research Questions:

1) Which Building typology are you researching?

Ans. Initially I was thinking along the lines of looking at either Museums or Libraries. During that thought process i came up with doing a combination of both for example doing a speciality Museum. Like a guitar museum which would also sell guitars.

2) Why are you researching this building typology?

Ans. We were instructed to choose a building type which we have never done or explored. During the course of my studies I have never taken it upon myself to take an in dept look at museums or libraries. People often take these establishments for granted because we see them on a daily basis. So i have decided to have an in dept research done on these buildings.

3) What is the Speciality of this building type you would like the research.

Ans. The speciality of the building type would be a computer museum which would show the progression of computers from the most basic type and initial concept to the most state of the art and compact computers.

4) What are the examples that you will be researching?

1. The Guggenheim Museum in New York by Frank Lloyd Wright
2. The Louvre Museum by Jean Nouvel.
3. The Sydney Opera House located in Sydney Australia done by Jorn Utzon.
4. Naismith Memoril Basketball Hall of Fame
5. Albany Institute Of History and Art
6. The Women's Library
7. Etonville Public Library
8. Krieble Gallery, Florence Griswald Museum
9. Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis
10. Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
11. Racine Art Museum

5) What are your goals for working with this building type?

Ans. My goals are to design a fully function able building which would be able to effectively educate all visitors about technology and give its history along with being able to sell computers and software to who soever is interested.

6) What are the program elements that you see included at this point in your building?

Ans.
  • Entry
  • Lobby
  • Gift shop
  • Art Galleries
  • Bathroom
  • Cafe
  • Office
  • Conference room
  • Storage room
  • Mechanical room
  • Admissions
